Ah, a super fan of fry ups and all things tasty. Wonderful! You must treat yourself to vats of oil and fat like us, right?
It's a greasy situation! What do you do with your cooking oil or fat when you're finished with it? I'll tell you what people usually do: They throw it in their bin. Others? Some people think pouring used cooking oil down the drain is an excellent way to get rid of it. This is a no-no.
It's a big problem and can lead to problems with your water supply. The oil can travel through your pipes and cause a build-up, affecting the treatment process at your local water plant. It might not seem like a lot, but if other people are doing the same, it could significantly affect your local water supply.
When you're frying an item and oil seeps out into the pan, leave it, as the oil can be reused again without any problems.
If you don't use all the oil in one go, keep it — when cooled down — in a container for later use, so when you're cooking from scratch, you can reuse it.
Although most people are aware that fat and cooking oil should be reused or recycled in some way rather than poured down the drain, it is important to dispose of cooking oil and fat in the right way, as it can attract pests. You can't just throw it into regular rubbish bins (or down the sink). It also means that when you want to reuse it, you need to store it in airtight containers and not let it cool down completely before disposing of it.
So, in conclusion, remember: don't ever pour used cooking oil and fat down the sink of your home, as it can cause damage to your drains and can lead to a fatberg forming in sewage systems. This may put other drains you share with neighbours at risk of being blocked.
